Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.
Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.
Blackbird fly Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.
I've heard an argument that this is an alegory of the black struggle. Of course the dead of night -- black history within the USA up to this moment, and the moment would be the freedom movement of the '60s. Perhaps that was the moment. And do not dismiss what you did not see, for oppresion did not end with slavery.
